Pei Ketron on Instagram: "One thing I've learned during my solo travels is that sometimes you want a person in your photo and no one else is around so that person has to be you. In this particular situation, I would've felt terrible sending anyone else out barefoot into the freezing ankle-deep salt water - it was something that even I had to psych myself up for. What I was dreading most was the cold, but in the end, it was the sharpness of the salt crust below the water that did me in. The frigid water actually helped numb my feet to the pain. The three separate walks I did were basically like the world's most painful exfoliating treatment. Aside from the fact that, as it was happening, it felt like the soles of my feet were bleeding, it basically now feels like I had a paraffin wax treatment. To take this shot, I had my iPhone 6+ set up on a tiny Gorillapod and used the interval timer on the Gorillacam app. Beside it, my DSLR was set up on a full-sized tripod. Both were set to take a photo every second as I stepped gingerly through the water. Fun fact: the last time I was here (at the end of spring a few years ago), most of this area was dry salt.
