The function invokes particular <code><a rd-options="" href="/link/methods?package=base&version=3.5.2" data-mini-rdoc="base::methods">methods</a></code> which depend on the <code><a rd-options="" href="/link/class?package=base&version=3.5.2" data-mini-rdoc="base::class">class</a></code> of the first argument.</p>
